The major objective of Work Package 3 is to identify, specify and assess NOBEL extended long term network architectures, concepts and solutions for the evolution of optical broadband core and metro networks to adapt the network and node structures to the dominating burst/packet type of data (e.g. IPv4, IPv6 etc.) traffic in order to provide the required flexibility, scalability, quality and reliability in the most effective way. The architectural, conceptual and feasibility studies performed in NOBEL (2004-2005) will be refined and focused on selected solutions. The work will be performed in 2 focused activities.
